More Oliver-isms

"And NOW I will drink my . . . [pause for dramatic effect] Juice . . . Of . . . FIRE!"

"Baby, you do NOT play with night light. No ma'am. That for grown ups and Olivers."

"Mommy, sharks swim in the real ocean? [I said yes] Do sharks swim in the duck park ocean?"

"My. Name. Is. LAWNMOWER."

[Buttercup was babbling in her high chair] "I took Baby's 'blah blah blah' away from her. My 'blah blah blah!'"

"I think, when Baby grows up, Baby will want a REAL hamster."

"I'm going to take the shark's teeth out with my chainsaw."

"Mommy, when I'm a big, black spider, I going to crawl up somebody's leg. And somebody will cry."

[When I asked him what we should do after Buttercup's morning nap] "I think we should go to the pet store and park at IKEA and park at Mighty Fine and then walk to the pet store to play! I think that would be fine. I think that would be mighty fine! Ha ha ha!"

"Mommy, can we all wear our dopshination [adoption] shirts today?"

[After I asked him to sit next to Buttercup so I could take their pictures for Jana's blog]
"Mommy, can we take picture of elephant humidifier and Dumbo?"

Mudbug

It rained this morning! Oliver and I were outside for our usual playtime during the baby's nap, and it rained off and on for about an hour. It was so nice! Oliver had fun splashing in the mud while I sat in the (dry) garage and tried to avoid getting sprinkled with mud and raindrops. :0)

Funny Face Friday

Happy Friday! We've really been enjoying ourselves this week. The weather has been cooler (note: not cool, but cooler), so we've been spending most of our mornings outside or at playgrounds.

This morning, Oliver and I did some crafts after breakfast while Buttercup played nearby.

While Buttercup was napping this morning, Oliver and I played outside and he practiced making some funny faces!

"fish face"

"shark face"

"silly face"

"grumpy face"

"happy face"

And here are some cute pictures and a video from earlier in the week!

And here's Oliver singing one of his favorite songs ("Brown Girl in the Ring" by The Wiggles)

Milestones, Milestones!

Buttercup turned 9 months old last week, and I can't believe she's already so close to being 1 year old. She is turning into such a big girl -- she eats mostly table food, she can sit up from a lying position, and she army crawls around the house trying to chase Oliver and play with his toys. She had her 9 month checkup on Tuesday, and she's growing perfectly and is as healthy as can be!

Oliver hit some milestones of his own this week and is becoming such a big boy.
1) He's started making up his own jokes and stories (I'll include a sample below) and is turning into such a funny little guy.
2) Today he decided that he did not want my help using the bathroom and he did it all by himself! I was so proud (and a little sad!).
3) And the biggest milestone is: last night Oliver got out of his bed, opened his door, and came into our room by himself. He's never done that before, and it gave Dennis and me quite a shock. I don't think Oliver fell asleep until 11pm last night! He also woke up around 6 this morning, so needless to say, he's been a little tired today. :-)

Funny Oliver-ism:
Wednesday morning, all four of us were in the kitchen getting breakfast ready. I poured Oliver's cereal into his bowl on the kitchen island, and handed him some to eat. I turned my back to him to get his cup out of the cabinet, and turned back around to see Oliver reaching his hand up toward the bowl again. (note: as a safety precaution, Oliver is not allowed to reach into food containers on the island) I raised my eyebrows at him, and Oliver grinned at me, then looked at Dennis (who was also raising his eyebrows at Oliver) and said, "You better not be touching that, DADDY!" And as if that wasn't funny enough, he added, "I'm watching you, Wazowski. Always watching you!" (a line from his favorite movie, Monsters Inc.) He is so funny!

A Day in Pictures, installment 2

Welcome to the 2nd installment of A Day in Pictures!

First, we had breakfast . . .

. . . then Oliver danced wildly in his room while I cleaned up the dining room and kitchen.

After we all got dressed, it was time to go for a quick run. Oliver tried to put on his new running shoes by himself, but he still had a little bit of trouble with the velcro. I don't doubt that he'll get the hang of it in no time!

After I ran, Oliver and I stretched on the sidewalk . . .

. . .while Buttercup chewed on her dolly.

When we got inside, Oliver (very gently) "clipped" Buttercup's hair with his pliers while I fixed her pre-nap bottle.

After I got the baby down for her nap, Oliver watched a Thomas video on YouTube while I took my shower,

then Oliver and I headed outside for some playtime while the baby napped.
Oliver mowed, practiced his golf swing, and "nail gunned" the grass.

After Buttercup woke up, Oliver entertained us by doing "acrobats" in the kitchen while I got our things ready to walk to the playground.

At the playground, it was time for a snack / sidewalk chalk break,

then we hit the swings!

Both kiddos love to swing!

After swinging, it was time to play on the playscapes.

We were all pretty beat after our playground trip! We had a quick lunch and then both kids took long naps. After Oliver woke up, he and I played in his room for a little while, then Buttercup joined us after she woke up.

Then it was time to get dinner ready! We had several fresh, ripe peaches, so I made a peach cobbler for a treat. Oliver was a big helper, scooping out flour and sugar, and stirring for me.

While I finished preparing dinner, Oliver worked on the roof of the house I drew for him.

After Dennis came home, we ate dinner, and cleaned up the kitchen.

Then we all went outside to watch Dennis rehang Oliver's swing.

Then Buttercup explored the grass in the backyard

while Oliver "raked" the yard with a branch full of dead leaves.

and finally, it was bathtime! What a fun day. :-)
