Today is a chilly, gray day, which feels like perfect napping and book-reading weather to me. The kids and I had a busy morning with lots of outside playtime for the big ones, and I got everyone down for their naps kind of late. I was hoping that at least the 3 year old would take a good nap, but to my surprise all three kids all took a good, long nap at the same time! (And, as a plus, the baby took a little bit longer to fall asleep, so I got to go back in his room to rock him and smell his sweet baby smell.) I got all of my chores done, read for a little while, then as I was sitting on the couch I thought about all of the little things that I'm thankful for today. Like . . .
-- getting to have a really good quiet time with the Lord in the middle of the day;
-- having the time to prep tonight's dinner, tomorrow's dinner, and the kids' school lunches for tomorrow so I can play with the kids when they are up from their naps;
-- having the laundry done for another day;
-- having lots of good books to read;
-- our awesome coffee maker;
-- getting to watch the clouds through the skylight in the living room;
-- the mild winter and getting to enjoy the playgrounds before it gets too hot again;
-- that Theodore will be old enough to play at the sprinkler parks and sand parks this summer!
-- my sweet girl and how much she loves her brothers;
-- my baby boy and the way he clings to me like a baby koala;
-- my big boy, who comes stumbling down the hall after naptime with his hair flattened on one side, one cheek red from laying on it, rubbing his eyes and mumbling, "Moooom, did I sleep?" :-)

Things I'll miss
It seems like the kids are growing so quickly and that time is literally flying by! There are so many moments and memories that I don't want to forget. Like these:
When Buttercup says "how" instead of "why." As in, "Mom, how are you wearing those pants?"
When Oliver and Buttercup both pronounce "chocolate" as "chock-lick."
The way Theodore's face lights up when his big sister or brother are nearby.
When Buttercup runs to Theodore when they first wake up in the morning, as though the night was too long to be away from him. :-)
How much Oliver loves elephants and sting rays.
The way Buttercup will carry on a ten minute conversation with herself, complete with hand gestures, and punctuated with laughter and the word "booty".
When Oliver and Buttercup are both wanting the same thing, one of them will usually (but not always, ha ha) back down and offer it to the other. :-)
The way Oliver and Buttercup look out for each other and help each other out (although I'm hoping this will be a life-long thing!).
When Buttercup says "swimp soup" instead of "swim suit."
The way Buttercup says words in a silly way by making them all start with a B sound. Like, "Bom, bow are boo bearing bose bants?"
I love my sweet kiddos! Although I wish I could freeze time (only on some days, ha ha), I'm looking forward to seeing what type of personality Theodore has and all of the neat things that he does!

Random thoughts, July edition
-- In some ways, going from 2 kids to 3 kids is a lot easier than going from 1 kid to 2 kids. We've all had to make adjustments of course, but what helps is that this time around Oliver and Buttercup have each other for company/distractions while I'm busy with the baby.
-- I'm soooo thankful for my hubby, sister, and mom for their constant support and help. You guys are the BEST!
-- I'm so glad that the older kids have the opportunity to have a day to themselves with my mom or sister.
-- It's weird that our cat is now on antidepressants.
-- I am so proud of Buttercup for doing so well in her big girl bed! She really is a big girl now. Of course, as I'm typing this she's calling to me (loudly) from her bed, but the point is that she's IN her bed. ;-)

More random thoughts and cute pictures
Today Oliver is spending the day at Grammy's apartment (thank you, Mom!). Buttercup, Theodore, and I dropped him off around 9:00am, and Hubby will bring pick him up after work and bring him home after his swim lesson tonight. I miss my big boy, but I'm having fun spending time with my big girl and baby boy, too. Theodore took a short nap in his crib after we got home this morning, and Buttercup and I got to play outside in the cooler (!!!) weather, doing all of the fun things that she likes to do (mainly decorating herself with chalk and riding her bicycle in circles on the driveway).
I will admit, though, when Oliver asked if he could have his nap at Grammy's apartment, my first thought was, "Oh yay, I can run 6 miles on the treadmill while the other 2 are napping!!" (Oliver rarely takes a nap these days, so my naptime runs are usually around 2-4 miles.) I was really looking forward to getting Buttercup and Theodore down for their post-lunch naps. It looked like everything was going to be perfect -- Buttercup was yawning and being very disgruntled after lunch, and Theodore had been awake since 11:00am. I had them both in bed by 12:15, but strangely . . . Theodore started crying. I tried to give him his pacifier, but he wouldn't take it, so I rocked him for a few minutes, put him back down, ran back to my room to get on the treadmill, and . . . he started crying again. Really strange that he was crying again! I rocked him again, gave him his pacifier, put him back down. Walked back to my room, and he started crying again. This time, I went in the kitchen to make him a bottle, and by the time I got back to his room, he was quiet. And asleep. (Whew!) By this time, it was 12:40. I got my running shoes on, and was about to start the treadmill, when Buttercup started crying. She was hysterical about something (I think she'd had a bad dream?), so I rocked her and calmed her down, and left her room around 1:00. Went back to my room, looked at the treadmill, then . . . folded it up, took off my running shoes, and took a shower. Without running. Sigh. Oh well. Maybe I need an extra day off. Or maybe I'll try again later. :-)
Other random stuff -- my wonderful sister spent the better part of an hour in our hot (over 100 degrees) garage yesterday afternoon, re-installing the kids' car seats so that they can all fit in the middle row. They tested out the new arrangement this morning, and no one cried or threw a tantrum, no one poked the baby, and everyone seems happy. So far. ;-)
And lest I dare write two blog posts in a row without including pictures of my sweet babies (the audacity!!), here are a few pictures from this week. :-)

My favorites
I've been in a perpetually grouchy mood for the past few days, so I thought I needed a reminder that things really aren't that bad. :-)
Things I love:
-- my hilarious, exuberant, adventurous, beautiful children
-- springtime in central Texas
-- naptime
-- baby kicks
-- that the baby's nursery is almost finished
-- maternity shirts that cover my belly. Particularly the gray tunic that my friend Jana gave me. I'll be wearing it a lot over the next 7 weeks. :-)
-- our new bedroom furniture (which hasn't actually arrived in our home yet, but it will be here next week!!!)
-- my new treadmill (which also hasn't been delivered yet, but will also be here next week!!)
-- bluebonnets
-- strawberry cheesecake ice cream with crushed-up Oreos and chocolate magic shell
-- having the windows open
-- swimming

Random thoughts
- I make the best banana bread ever. For real.
- I love it when it's cool enough to have the windows open during the day!
- I love Halloween, and am super excited about making fun, cut Halloween crafts with my kids this year.
- I think I like doing crafts more than my kids.
- I love it when Buttercup finds something funny and can't stop giggling. CUTE!
- I wish we could have a garage sale today. We have too much stuff, and not enough storage.
- I love IKEA. I would love to have one of their designers come to our house and redecorate. For free, of course. ;-) I will keep dreaming.
- Air-popped popcorn with a sprinkle of ranch seasoning is awesome.
- Chuy's has the best Tex Mex. If I could, I would eat at Chuy's every day.
- I love food. That's probably why I majored in it. ;-)
- Sometimes I wish I could fast forward through the next couple of months, until Buttercup is able to communicate better (read: more talking, less screaming, hitting, and biting).
- It's hard to believe I used to not want to have kids. I can't imagine my life without them now.
- It grosses me out when I'm petting our cat, and she shakes her head and tosses saliva onto my face. Or any part of my body, really. Eww .
- I'm not really a cat person.
- I want to move to the country, to a house with a big yard. And a big dog.
- I think children (especially 4 year old boys) are a lot like Labrador retriever puppies. Try to contain and control them and they'll only be sullen and get into trouble. Give them room to run and a special place to dig, and your life will be so much easier (and they'll be SO happy!).
- I'm very thankful that my almost-4-year-old son still loves his nap. :-)
- I love to run. I don't like sprinting, but I'm thankful for every chance I get to run.
- I like to run races because I like the competition.
- My favorite race memory was the 5k I ran when I was 7 months pregnant with Buttercup. I breezed past a wheezing, overweight man in the second half of the race, and he cursed under his breath when he realized 1) how pregnant I was, and 2) that I was going to smoke him. Sorry, dude! I won second place in my age group in that race and have an awesome race picture for Buttercup's baby book. :-)
