Theodore-isms

Hi! Well, it's been about a week and I still haven't gotten around to getting Christmas pics off of my phone and onto my computer. (I don't know any other way of doing it other than the slow way of e-mailing myself each picture and uploading it to my computer . . . if anyone knows a faster way, please let me know!)

So, I don't have Christmas pics, but I do have something a little bit better, perhaps? I've been writing down some of the funny things that Theodore has said this week, so now I have a bunch of cute Theodore-isms for you!

-- One morning, Theodore and I were at the park, talking about what he wanted for lunch. He said he wanted beans. Well, by the time we got home, I forgot and made him a PB&J instead. He was mad when he got to the table and saw a sandwich instead of beans (the horror!), and threw a little fit. I ignored it and started praying over our lunch, and said something like, ". . . and please help Theodore have a good attitude about his sandwich."  After I prayed, Theodore said, "Okay, I eat this. Thank you, Jesus, help me make good attitude words!"

-- One morning while I was driving Buttercup and her friend to preschool, the girls were talking about their favorite animals. I asked Theodore what his favorite animal is, and he said, "My favorite animal is element. Elephant? Elephant. That my favorite animal on the carousel."

-- We were on our way to Hobby Lobby one afternoon, and Theodore was having trouble pronouncing the name of the store. He finally got it figured out, then about two minutes later he was trying to ask me if he could bring his snuggle friend (lovey) inside the store. He said, "I bring my snuggle on Wobby Hobby?  Wobby Wobby?  I not know how saying it.  Wobby Wobby."  HA HA!

-- Theodore has a favorite library book about blimps that we've been reading every day at naptime and bedtime. He just about has it memorized, so every once in a while I'll pause at a word so he will say it for me. One of the paragraphs is about how blimps were used to drop bombs in WWI. The last sentence goes, "but the bombs were small, and did little damage."  One evening, I was reading that last sentence, and I paused after "but the bombs were small . . ." and Theodore chimed in with, ". . . and did widdle tiny baby damage!" He even said it in a tiny baby voice! It was so funny!

-- This afternoon, I took the kids to the pool. While we were swimming, Theodore kept slurping up mouthfuls of pool water and spraying it into my face. I warned him a couple of times, then the last time I used my Stern Mommy voice and told him he would have to sit on the side if he did it again. He used his sweetest voice and said, "Or, I could jump in like elephant and make elephant sound???" And then he jumped in the pool with his arm up like an elephant's trunk, while making a trumpeting sound. What a goofball!!

Warning: this one is potty-related (but CUTE!).
-- We were about to leave the house, and I wanted to make sure Theodore wouldn't have to go #2 while we were out. I asked him to try to poop, and he was sitting on the toilet for a minute or so, making lots of loud grunting sounds . . . and then he said, "It not working! My behind no has batteries. Pee pee has batteries, but my behind no has batteries."  :-)

Here are some cute pictures! The first two are of Theodore trying to wink at me, and the last one is of him admiring himself with his new Mickey Mouse bike helmet. I love that sweet little face!  :-)

Buttercup-isms

I haven't done this in a while! Here are some of the funny things Buttercup said yesterday. :-)

-- Oh, you know the word "ping pong"? That sounds just like "quinoa!"

-- When Jesus comes back, is He going to ride on the fire-breathing dragons? Are they His friends?

-- I love everybody in the world! Except for you [Mommy], Oliver, Theodore, Daddy, Aunt Anna, Granddaddy, Grammy, Grandma, and Grandpa. (I'm pretty sure she meant especially, not except.) ;-)

-- [Looking at one of my bras] Hey Mom, my friend Ellen has a pair of those overalls.

-- [After everyone was dressed to go to her dance recital] Oh, we look so nice! We look like we're about to go fly kites!

This last one was from a month or so ago. I was talking to Oliver and Buttercup about miracles, and asked them if they had seen a miracle, or if Jesus had answered some of their prayers. Oliver nodded yes and gave me an example. Buttercup got a pouty look on her face and said, "I asked Jesus to give me a unicorn horn, but HE HASN'T!!!"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!  I love my silly girl. :-)

More Buttercup-isms

Here are some of the funny things Miss Tootie said earlier this week. :-)

-- We were in the car, driving somewhere, and I put on some of my chapstick. I used to not let Buttercup use my chapstick, because it's strawberry scented, and she would always take a big bite out of it. So on this day, she asked me if she could wear some of mine. I said, "No, you can use your chapstick when we get home." She said, "I'll just put yours on my mouth, Mama. I don't eat your chapstick anymore. I only eat mine."  :-)

-- Buttercup was sitting on the couch, looking at a book about dinosaurs. She asked me, "Mom, do dinosaurs still lay golden eggs?" I said, "No, dinosaurs are extinct." She said, "What does that mean, that they moved to Africa?"

-- After school one day, she was singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, but she couldn't remember the word "reindeer." She tried to say it a couple of times, then she said, "Mama, what do you call that deer? You know, the Christmas deer?"

-- We were on the way home from Oliver's gymnastics lesson, and everyone was hungry. Oliver asked what we were having for dinner, and I said, "We're having chili, doesn't that sound yummy?" Buttercup yelled, "NO! I don't LIKE chilis, and I really don't like to eat cooked food!!! The only food that I don't like that's cooked is CARROTS!"  (Does that make sense to anyone?)

Buttercup-isms

I still haven't gotten around to reminding my sweet hubby about the hiking pictures (hopefully this afternoon!), but since I have a minute while the younger two are napping, I wanted to write down this funny conversation that I had with Buttercup this morning.

Buttercup, Theodore, and I were at the table, drawing with markers. I bought some new markers the other day, and Buttercup and I were testing them out. While we were drawing, we discovered that some of the markers were scented!

I picked up the orange marker.
Me: "Oh, what does this one smell like?"
Buttercup: "Hmmm. Oh. It smells like papaya!"
Which was really funny, because for one thing it obviously smelled like an orange, and why did she think of random fruit like papaya?!  Ha ha ha.

Then I picked up the yellow marker.
Me: "Hmm, what do you think this one smells like?" (Thinking that she would give an obvious answer like lemon or banana.)
Buttercup: "Hmm. I don't know."
Me: "Do you think it smells like lemon?"
Buttercup: [sniffing it] "Oh yeah! It smells like women!"
Me: "Not women. . . lemon!"
Buttercup:  "Oh yeah, oh yeah! Lemon.  I was just trying to speak Spanish."

I love my silly girl. :-)

This is my new favorite picture of her, by the way. It's so her.  :-)

Running randomness and cute kid-isms

Currently I'm following a new running training program for the 3M half marathon (in January). I'm going to try my hardest to follow the plan to a T, and so far (3 weeks in) I'm off to a good start. Okay, so I still have a problem with running my long runs too fast, but I've been doing a lot better at making sure I get the quality workouts in and not just doing longer runs instead. Last week I actually did hill repeats (although I should more accurately say "hill" repeats, since there are no real hills in our neighborhood).

Today was speedwork day for me, and I had planned to go to the track to run my 400 repeats, but as things go, I slept in and had to do sprints on the treadmill instead. I was (am) determined to do this right, so I calculated how fast I needed to run each 400 (1/4 mile on the treadmill), and what speed that would be. I do all of my treadmill runs at 1% incline, so based on that, I would have to run all 7 of the 400s at 10.2 mph. :-O  That's really fast. I wasn't sure I could do it, and since I have a little bit of a cold I decided to cut myself a little slack and aim for 10.0 instead.  I ran the first 4 at 10.0 and actually felt (relatively) comfortable, so I ran the last 3 at 10.1. I really felt like puking on the last two, which makes me think that I did it right. :-)  Yay for God! He is awesome for giving me the ability to do this!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, cute kid stuff!
Before we go somewhere, do something or, in general, transition from one thing to another, I have a habit of saying something like, "Who wants to go hiking/outside/to the store/swimming, etc?" and Oliver and Buttercup usually answer, "Me!"  Well, Theodore has picked up on that, and now when I ask those questions, he'll chime in with, "Me!" in his sweet baby voice! Sometimes he'll also respond that way if I say something like, "Let's go get in the car!" ["Me!"] or we can also ask him something like, "Who's a sweet baby boy??" ["Me!"]  Adorable!
Here are some funny things that Buttercup said over the past couple of days:
-- [While flipping through the Carter's catalog]
   Me:  What are you looking at?
   Buttercup:  I'm looking to see which baby sister I want.
-- [Last night, while I was tucking her in]
   Buttercup: I love you so much, Mama! I want to live with you forever!
  [Five minutes later, after I reminded her to stay in her bed]
   Buttercup: I'm going to steal all of the sound machines, and run away from you and Oliver and never see you again!
-- [This morning, while picking out clothes for school]
   Buttercup: I want to wear my jack-o-lantern shirt and dress up like a pumpkin patch.
   Me: Do you mean dress up like a pumpkin?
   Buttercup: No. I said a PUMPKIN PATCH. You know, where they make the pumpkins?
-- Her prayer at lunch today:
   "Dear Jesus, thank you for this new, great day. And please help us love each other
   better. And thank you for this beautiful lunch my mom made for me. Amen."
A sweet conversation
Yesterday at naptime, I had just finished reading the kids’ pre-nap stories to them, and they were putting the books away. Oliver saw the book Buttercup had, and he said:
Oliver: That’s mine, you know.
Buttercup: [to me] Is this one Oliver’s?
Me: I bought it for Oliver after he was born, and it was his for a little while, but that’s only because he was the first. Now it belongs to everyone.
B: Was that when I was in your tummy?
M: No, not yet. You were in my tummy later.
B: Oh. [brief pause] Is that when Jesus and God had me?
M: Yes, that’s when Jesus and God had you.
B: Did they hold me?
M: Oh yes, they did. They held you until it was the right time for you to be in my tummy.
B: I like that. I liked that they held me before I was in your tummy. I didn’t kick them.
My sweet girl. I love everything about that conversation, but especially love the thought of Jesus and God holding my babies in their arms before sending them to me. The things we learn from our kids! I love them so much. :-)
Buttercup-isms
Here are some of the funny things that Buttercup said today!
You know, one day when I'm a mommy, I'm going to have a baby brother in my tummy. And his name will be Baby and I'm going to change his diaper and rock him on my shoulder, and he'll cry about me, and then I'll bring him to big church.
When I grow up, I'm going to be an instruction [construction] worker.
Hey Mom, that mixer has a lot of mulch [flour] on it.
Buttercup: Mom, do you like Texas?
Me: Yes, I like Texas. Do you like Texas?
Buttercup: No, I like Hutto.
When I'm a bird, I'm going to fly up to Heaven with Babe and we're going to see Jesus and play at his house and eat cupcakes and stuff.
O: Blue
B: Purple and black and ABCs
Oliver-isms
Mom, were you funny a very long time ago? Because it's okay that you're not funny anymore.
Do you like my new Death Star that I made? I used up my whole imagination to build it, you know. It's [his imagination] not here anymore.
Buttercup, can you please be quiet?! I'm trying to talk to myself and I can't concentrate with you talking all the time.
Is Obi-wan Kenobi just a Jedi Knight, or is he a Jedi Day, too?
You want to know something? The guys who sit in the Imperial Cruiser are all men. Not ladies. But they wear something that looks like a tutu. [puzzled expression]
Did you know that I am stronger than Buttercup and a Lego guy?
And now . . . I will sing the "Afraid" song with my nose. [begins blowing air rapidly out of his nose]
Oliver-isms
Are there a lot of telephones wires that go to fire stations?
Mom, when we get to the playground, I'm going to tell you a secret.
If an owl is hanging on a tree in Alabama, can it see all the way to Texas?
I want to be a carpenter when I grow up, but I'm not going to live in the same town as you. I might visit you some time though.
Mom, one day when you're not looking, I'm going to walk gently into the utility room and throw away all of my papers.
Do cats vomit because they're allergic to vitamins or tomatoes?
Tell you what. I will do a super good chore this morning, and YOU will give me more allowance in my piggy bank!!
Do you know how I waited so patiently for the 7 [on his clock] this morning? I said to myself, "I will put my elephant over my face, and then I will see a 7!"
I try to remember stuff, but I think I have too many thoughts in my brain. [Dramatic sigh.]
More Oliver-isms
Note: these are things that he said this morning between 10am and 11am. He has a lot to say. :-)
In the cold, long winter, I’m going to wear my dinosaur slippers outside every day to keep my feet warm.
It’s not okay for Buttercup to touch my really sharp tools, because they’re really greasy. You know, with hot grease especially, and if it touches your knee, your knee skin will DIE.
Don’t talk to me because I can’t work and talk at the same time.
Buttercup, I can’t play with you right now. I have to put up some drywall.
Oh, Mama? MAMA!!! (said with a panicky voice) Oh, I just wanted to tell you that I love you.
I was trying to talk to Buttercup, but all she does is talk about her baby.
Sometimes at night, I have to get up and feed Hippo a bottle of chocolate soy strawberry milk. Hippo loves it and wakes me up all night to feed it to him.
I’m making Hippo a get well card, because he was up with the shin stilts [shin splints] all night.
I want my own house, with no mommy or daddy or a baby sister. I’m going to build it myself and it will be 20 feet wide and 3,000 feet tall.
You know when Laura [Ingalls Wilder] was a little girl? Is that when God was a little boy?
Oh man, I was trying to talk, but I couldn’t because I had too much air in my mouth.
Oliver-isms
Is it hot in everyone's attic? Like in South Africa or Guatemala?
I'm going to run away and hide in the ocean with the whale sharks and Jonathan.
I'm bigger than all of the baby bears because I'm 3 and a HALF, and that means I'm TALL.
Is it okay if I put Buttercup in time out if she hurts somebody?
Mama, did you get those cool pizza plates when you and Daddy got weddinged?
I drank all of my milk because I was thirsty for a lot of seconds.
There are 409 rooms in my new house in South Africa. But no window washers.
Want to play hide-and-stink?
My scuba mask covers my nose and catches my snot! That way I don't have to pick my boogers at naptime!
Buttercup can't read these books. These are dangerous books.
I am not Buttercup's protector. I'm a builder. And a demolitioner.
How big is the biggest crane in the world? Is it as tall as my daddy?
Oliver-isms
Here are some of the funny things that Oliver said today!
I don't like beans anymore. I used to like them, but not now. Maybe I'll eat them when I'm 4 years old.
Do you know why Buttercup is crying? Maybe she needs a great, big chocolate chip cookie!
How about if you make me 5 quesadillas and 1 chicken for dinner. And how about if you put it on 2 plates. Or, can we go to Rudy's?
Buttercup, you do not spell my name "E-I-E-I-O." Maybe you should spell somebody else's name instead.
[While listening to The Beatles] Mama, I'm going to change the name of this song to "I Don't Wanna Hold Your Hand."
Buttercup gave me a headache from all of that crying and not-gentle stuff like pulling my hair and hitting me on the back . . . I need some tylenol.
And, Oliver apparently has a new imaginary friend, as evidenced by the conversation we had at lunchtime:
Oliver: Mama, do you see Jonathan?
Me: Who?
Oliver: Mama. You know, my friend Jonathan? He helps me with my tools? He's right behind you."
A Few Oliver-isms from Today
Here are a couple of funny things that Oliver said today while Jaxon was at our house:
Me: (pointing to Jaxon's blanket) That's Jaxon's special blanket. He likes to hold it the way you like to hold sting ray or elephant.
Jaxon: Yeah, my Nana made it for me. It's special.
Oliver: Well, I have a special blanket, too. It's my elephant blanket. A nice IKEA lady made it for me.
Jaxon: Hey, let's play SUPERHEROES!
Oliver: No, hey, let's play SUPERHEROES with GUITARS and FLASHLIGHTS!
Me: (after Jaxon went home) Oliver, thanks so much for being such a good friend to your buddy today. You made my heart so full!
Oliver: I did? Is it so full that I can have 3 reward beads?
Even More Oliver-isms
One day, the mail man is going to say, "Oliver! Heeeeeeeeeeere's your mail!" He'll say it really loud, so I can hear him even if I'm busy crunching my broccoli.
Mama, where's your tutu? (I told him that most grown ups don't have tutus.) Well, what about that big white tutu over there? [pointing to a picture of me in my wedding gown] Was that when you were a pretty, pretty princess?
One day, when Buttercup gets lost in the woods, I'm going to get my flashlight and shine it up at the trees, and then I'll get my binoculars and look for her.
When I earn my last reward bead, I want to buy a . . .
big whale shark cake! And I'll cut out the teeth with my knife, and then I'll eat it all up in my tum tum!
What did Jonah do to Miss Goliath?
I don't know where Buttercup's mail keys are. She must have left them in the woods.
Do caterpillars wake up at night time? You know, before they turn into butterflies?
Danger tape is the
best tape in the world.
On Sunday, in my class, I learned about the 5 loaves of bread and the 2 loaves of fish!
After I cook up all these snakes, I'll hold Buttercup's hand so she won't get lost in the woods again.
Mama, when you're not looking, I'm going to run a home run and go all the way back to IKEA to get that polar bear.
When am I going to get to be a whale? When I'm a grown up?
Monday, February 15, 2010
Oliver-isms
Here are some funny things that Oliver said today.
Hey Mama, what would you like to order? How about some tasty whale shark nuggets?
(At the park, while playing with rocks.) I'm just collecting coffee beans for the butterflies. You know, they live at my coffee bean paltation.
Buttercuppie, maybe when you're 15 months tall like me, you can climb this high mountain.
(After his nap.) Mama, the 2 [on his clock] came real fast today! I saw the 12, I closed my eyes, and then I saw the 2 and said, 'Oh man, it's time to get up!'
Mama, I just love you. (I asked him if he also loves his baby sister.) Hmm, yeah, I do. I love her. I like to play with it. I just don't like her touching me with her hands all the time.
Mama, I just don't want you to be a bear. I just want you to be a people.
Now that I jackhammered all the barracudas in Buttercup's room, it's time to go back in the tent! (I asked him if there are barracudas in his room) No, just great whites.
Even more Oliver-isms
Here are a few things Oliver said this morning:
"Do whale sharks swim in the duck park rivers with the bull sharks?"
Me: Do you want to wear your doctor pajamas so you can be Dr. Oliver and help Buttercup feel better?
Oliver: No, I want to wear my construction worker pajamas so I can saw her leg off. And then I'll hammer a nail in her leg. Would that help her feel better?
"Buttercup, you don't have to cry. Maybe some day someone will buy you a big sack full of animals."
"You know, one day, a long, long time ago, I put a lot of hair in my . . . [looooong pause] . . . hair."
"I think, the next time I'm a whale shark, I'm not going to eat plankton. I want to eat a peanut butter and JELLYFISH sandwich instead!"
Monday, January 18, 2010
More Oliver-isms
These are some of the funny things that Oliver said today!
"I think I want a baby brother. No, I think I want a baby whale shark instead."
"I want to live in the Mississippi River with the bull sharks and Granddaddy." [I pointed out that Granddaddy doesn't actually live in the Mississippi River, just near it.] "Well, I still want to live there. And Granddaddy can come, too, if he's not scared of the bull sharks."
"Now I am going to sing Buttercup a song. Fe Fi Fo Fum . . . SPAGHETTIOS!"
Buttercup: "Ball?"
Me: "Oliver is playing with the ball now, but he'll share it in a minute."
Oliver: "Actually, I do not plan to share the ball with Buttercup at any time."
Oliver: "Do sharks need to wear lotion at night time?"
Me: "No."
Oliver: "Because they have skin like foxes?"
"Mama. You shouldn't run that race. You should go to Chuck E. Cheese's instead!!"
"Mama, are there different colored jellyfish? You know, like strawberry or grape?"
Me: "Can you sing with me?"
Oliver: "No, I'm sorry, I can't. I'm under my umbrella."
More Oliver-isms
"And NOW I will drink my . . . [pause for dramatic effect] Juice . . . Of . . . FIRE!"
"Baby, you do NOT play with night light. No ma'am. That for grown ups and Olivers."
"Mommy, sharks swim in the real ocean? [I said yes] Do sharks swim in the duck park ocean?"
"My. Name. Is. LAWNMOWER."
[Buttercup was babbling in her high chair] "I took Baby's 'blah blah blah' away from her. My 'blah blah blah!'"
"I think, when Baby grows up, Baby will want a REAL hamster."
"I'm going to take the shark's teeth out with my chainsaw."
"Mommy, when I'm a big, black spider, I going to crawl up somebody's leg. And somebody will cry."
[When I asked him what we should do after Buttercup's morning nap] "I think we should go to the pet store and park at IKEA and park at Mighty Fine and then walk to the pet store to play! I think that would be fine. I think that would be mighty fine! Ha ha ha!"
"Mommy, can we all wear our dopshination [adoption] shirts today?"
[After I asked him to sit next to Buttercup so I could take their pictures for Jana's blog]
"Mommy, can we take picture of elephant humidifier and Dumbo?"
