Oliver, as usual, had so many cute and funny things to say today, so I thought I would share some with you!
We spent most of our morning on the trail, running around and playing on playgrounds. Both Oliver and I got pretty sweaty while we were playing. At naptime, Oliver was sitting close to me while we read stories, and he looked at me and said, "Something stinky." I said, "Really? What stinks?" And he said, "Mommy. Mommy stinky." He even wrinkled up his nose!
Tonight when I tucked Oliver in bed, I asked him which song he wanted me to sing. He said, "Song about running a race." I thought he meant Do-Re-Mi, because we listened to it earlier in the day, and one part goes, "Fa . . . a long, long way to run." So I started singing that song. Oliver interrupted and said, "No, not that one. Running race song!" I asked him to sing it to me, and he said, "Gun! Gun! Gun! Ready, set, go! Run race!" I said, "Do you want me to sing the song that was sung when Mommy ran a race?" and he said, "yes!" So tonight his bedtime song was The Star Spangled Banner. LOL!
It's Friday already! We are having a wonderful, busy day. This morning Oliver was so sweet and well-behaved that he earned 2 reward beads -- bringing his total up to 15 beads! 15 beads = 1 sticker and a treat from the store. We had to go to Costco anyway, so I let Oliver pick out lunch from the snack bar for his reward treat. He chose a hot dog!
On the way home from Costco, I looked in the rearview mirror and saw that Oliver playing with his toys and Buttercup wasn't playing with her toys, but was staring at Oliver instead. She looked a little lonely, so I asked Oliver to tell her a story. He looked at her and said, "Big brother tell you story now. Baby listen to big brother. Once upon time, there was Big Tickle Bug who wanted to knock down house. Little Tickle Bug don't like knock down house, asked Big Tickle Bug 'no please.' Big Tickle Bug go away." He stopped there, and I asked him if he could finish his story, and he thought for a minute and said, "No Mommy, that all the story I have in my mouth." What a cutie!
Wow, it's already the second week of May. We are enjoying the warm weather before it starts getting too hot! This afternoon we went to the sprinkler park. Oliver loved wearing his "bo-bo guard" (rash guard) and Lightning McQueen swim trunks. I know he has recently gone through a growth spurt, because his swim trunks were a good bit shorter on him today! What a growing boy. He had so much fun splashing and running through the sprinklers! Buttercup was very cute in her pink striped swim suit, but she didn't care for the water that much this time. I bet she'll be more interested in it toward the end of the summer!

Oliver is such a sweet big brother. He is constantly looking out for his baby sister, wants to share things with her, wants his clothes to match hers, etc. Since Buttercup wears Oliver's hand-me-down pajamas, every night at bedtime, Oliver asks which PJs she is wearing so he can pick out matching PJs for himself. It's so fun to watch them interact! Yesterday morning, I was in the kitchen preparing lunch while Oliver played in the living room and Buttercup sat in the exersaucer. Buttercup started crying, and Oliver immediately walked over and said, "It okay, baby. Big brother here! Baby need hug now?" and reached out to give her a hug. He was so close to her face that she stopped crying and stared at him, then started giggling. Very cute! It was definitely one of the moments that I wish I could bottle up and save for later.
Last weekend, Dennis took Oliver to Target, and Oliver picked out these matching cups for himself and baby sister (also notice their matching shark PJs):

I've recently started doing a Bible lesson with Oliver twice a week. So far, he doesn't quite get it . . . our first 2 lessons have been in the book of Genesis (mainly about the animals and God's creation) and if you ask Oliver what he learned from his Bible lesson, he says, "JESUS!" . . . but he's a willing, cheerful learner. I love spending our days together!
