Turns out that snorkeling in the bathtub isn't as much fun as it seemed at first. But thankfully we'll have some summer weather soon, and he'll get to try his snorkel in a real swimming pool. :-)

Oliver the Scuba Diver
In case I haven't mentioned it lately, Oliver is really into sharks. And whales. And crabs (especially hermit crabs). And pretty much anything that lives or swims in the deep blue sea. He currently wants to be a scuba diver when he grows up. So you can imagine that he was pretty excited about the mask and snorkel that I bought for him at the store today! His face totally lit up when he saw it, and he couldn't wait to test it out.

Our First Barbecue of 2010
The weather was so beautiful today that we spent almost all of our time outside playing! This afternoon we played baseball, blew bubbles, had races, played in the tent, and played catch with the rocket ball. Then Dennis barbecued hamburgers and we ate dinner outside. It's always more work to eat outside, but it was so much fun, and such a relaxing way to spend a Saturday.

Me: "Who wants barbecue???"
Oliver: "I DO!"
Buttercup: "Nnghungh? Ball? BALL?!!"

Oliver had control of the camera for these last 3 pictures. :-)

One of Those Days
Today was just one of those days. You know those days, when no one is happy and nothing goes right. Kind of made me wish that we could all go back to bed and start the day over!
Our day started off innocently enough with both kids sleeping in and waking up very happy, but then things started going downhill shortly after breakfast. It was an absolutely beautiful, spring-like morning, so there was no reason for us to stay inside the house. I finally managed to talk Oliver into going to the trail to ride his bike, and that kind of made his attitude a little bit better . . . but not by much.

He even refused to smile while he was swinging.

Buttercup, however, was in a great mood by that point! Hooray for a happy little girl!

Sporting her new sunglasses picked out by her big brother. Every baby girl needs sparkly pink Barbie sunglasses, right?

We ended up leaving the park early and were back at our house way before I had hoped to be back home. I was trying to come up with something productive and interesting for Oliver to do, and he came up with an idea by himself! He ended up digging for worms under the rose bush in our front yard. And surprisingly, he found a couple of them!

We relocated this one to an empty container to save for the next time we go fishing. I guess now we need to get him a real fish hook. :-)

Playtime at the Park
We didn't have any plans this morning, so after we played inside for a little while, I decided we should go for a quick run. I wasn't planning on running for long, but as always I packed enough water, cheese, crackers, and fruit to last all morning (just in case). Oliver wasn't thrilled about sitting in the stroller for a run, but he finally changed his mind when I offered to let him hold my digital camera on the way. :-)
Here are a few pictures he took with the camera:

I ran a few miles with the stroller, and we were on the way back to our house when Buttercup decided she'd had enough. So we stopped at the playground for a couple of hours to play!
Hermie the Hermit Crab watched us from his perch on the stroller canopy.

Oh, and before I forget, I decided to take Grammy's suggestion and I trimmed Buttercup's bangs today! I didn't think it was possible, but she looks even cuter than before. :-)

Visit from Grammy!
We had a very special guest for the past few days -- my mom came to visit! Everyone was so excited. Oliver talked about it for all of last week and was so happy to see his Grammy when she drove up to our house on Saturday!
Buttercup and Grammy hit it off right away.

On Sunday, Mom taught me how to make gumbo. Our house smelled like roux for 2 days! YUM.

For the rest of Mom's visit, we had fun doing the usual things -- playgrounds, playing outside, stomping in the mud, writing with chalk, playing in the sand box, etc.

Buttercup got too warm outside yesterday afternoon, so Mom took her inside to cool off while I stayed outside with Oliver. He started drawing with chalk and said, "Hey, this looks like a sea otter!" And you know, it really does look like a sea otter. :-)

An Odd Assortment of Things
Oliver often puts his most treasured things on his dresser so Buttercup can't reach them (although, unfortunately for him, she's already tall enough to reach almost everything on his dresser). Here is a list of things I found on his dresser this morning (in addition to his lamp, pirate ship, car display shelf, and white noise machine):
- a long piece of red ribbon
- an empty shoe box
- a coffee filter
- a piece of paper on which he wrote "a note for the puppies" when he was pretending to be Horace and Jasper (from 101 Dalmatians)
- his yellow power drill
- his super hero cape and goggles
- a receiving blanket (???)
- one of Buttercup's overnight diapers (???)
- a roll of painter's tape
- a cotton ball
- his green pliers
- a yellow scrub brush
- a barricade from the Geo Trax train set
- a toy soldier
- his "mail" keys
- a plastic container from the H.E.Buddy machine with cut up pieces of paper inside
