Love

Anyone who has been around Buttercup knows what a love bug she is. She loves to snuggle, cuddle, kiss, hug, etc. Oliver, on the other hand, was pretty much only snuggly as a newborn. Nowadays, he usually only snuggles with me immediately after he wakes up from a nap or bedtime. Since he's not a snuggler and Buttercup is, it's interesting for me to see the ways that Oliver shows love to his baby sister.

One of the ways is that he likes to share with her or make sure they have matching things. When she was a newborn, she wore Oliver's old PJs at night, and Oliver would run into her room at bedtime to see what she was wearing so he could match her. Several times he also took his beloved Thomas blanket out of his bed and put it in Buttercup's crib so she wouldn't get cold while she was sleeping, or he would take stuffed animals out of his bed and put them in her crib so she would have something to snuggle with.

This morning both kids got balloons at the grocery store. When we got home, Buttercup and Oliver raced around the house with their balloons trailing behind them. After playing for a while, Oliver ran off down the hall with his balloon, then asked me to come see where he had put it -- he'd put it on his bookcase next to his bed. Right before naptime, I walked into Buttercup's room with her and saw that Oliver had put her balloon on her bookcase, too.

And now that Buttercup is walking, Oliver is having so much fun with her. He loves to chase her (or have her chase him!) and tickle her. All of this is from the kid who, not once, not twice, but
THREE times tried to throw his sister across the room when she was a newborn. I guess he's (finally) gotten used to the idea of her living at our house. :-)
